What is Irish Sea Moss Extract?
Irish Sea Moss is a highly nutritious plant which contains high levels of Vitamins A, E, F, and K as well as calcium, potassium, sulfur, and iodine. Irish Moss became popular historically during the Irish Potato Famine due to its high nutrient density becoming more important than its less than stellar taste as a food, and is now becoming popular again for use in supplements as a nutrient dense superfood.
This Irish Sea Moss Extract is a nutrient dense extract from the moss itself causing a high concentration of nutrients in each capsule. Double Wood’s Irish Moss Extract is a great natural alternative to synthetic multivitamins.*
Recommended Dosage
For use as a supplement, we recommend taking between 2-4 capsules per day for a total daily dose of between 1200 – 2400 mg. Irish Moss Extract is best used with food as some of its nutrients are not water soluble and need to be taken with a source of dietary fat for best absorption.
It's not recommended exceeding 4 capsules per day, but those fighting severe nutrient deficiencies can take up to 6 capsules without issues. If exceeding 4 capsules per day care should be taken to ensure you aren’t getting too much Iodine.
Irish Sea Moss Extract Side Effects
Irish Sea Moss Extract is very well tolerated with few side effects, mainly GI discomfort or diarrhea, but it should be avoided in a few specific circumstances.
The largest risk and source of side effects if using Irish Sea Moss Extract is from getting too much iodine. While this is unlikely for most people using it at recommended dosages, if you commonly take other supplements which include Iodine you may want to skip the Irish Sea Moss Extract.
Irish Sea Moss Extract also has mild anticoagulant properties, so it should be avoided by people taking blood thinners, with high blood pressure, or bleeding diseases.
